Role — what a lead engineer owns

Almost certainly the first senior engineering hire beside one technical founder: architecture, not a slice. Ranked by strategic weight.

  1. Correctness as the moat. Everything they sell is a derived number. After the Ownership Score snapshot, wrong individual scores hit X. In an intelligence shop one bad figure costs more than ten missing features. Build: reconcile to chain, idempotent backfills, reorg/upgrade resilience, anomaly detection, a published data-quality method. (Their own monthlies restated June’s volume — see 06-risks.md.)
  1. Real-time infra. Umbra’s defense flipped in fifteen minutes. Signals are Telegram-only. Build: Geyser/websocket indexing, live pass-edge, API webhooks. “Is this passing right now” is something traders pay for.
  1. Ingestion beyond MetaDAO. They already watch Futardio, Star, Spark. Today each venue is probably a bespoke pipe. Build: adapters — a new launchpad or chain is config plus a thin driver.
  1. API as revenue. Beta, hand-keyed, paid tiers “available,” six integration pitches already in the docs. Build: self-serve keys, metering, billing, SLAs, status page.
  1. OpenBooks as the B2B wedge. Their “route 100% of revenue through the treasury” Call manufactures demand for a ledger. Rules/patterns/batches are already in the app. Build: double-entry movements, period close, statements teams can publish.
  1. Research → product. Ownership Score (115K wallets) and Umbra were one-offs; they promised 1-week/1-month re-runs by hand. Build: cohort trackers, wallet forensics, holder-quality as a service.
  1. Governance-attack early warning. The Umbra pattern (fresh wallet, bridge, exact stake, recover+reuse, cadence) is detectable before the next $4,623 swing. This repo is that item. Build: funding-path traces, accumulation alerts, proposal risk scores on live data.
  1. Engineering leadership. Production 500s, no public tests, agency-built backend. Do: CI, observability, incident discipline; keep their agentic workflow; hire the next engineers; free James and Drew for research and distribution.
